Cornell Takes the Claret Cup for 2012

Cornell travelled to Hamilton, New York to take on cross-state rival Colgate University on Saturday, September 8th. Cornell was fresh off a close defeat and looking for their first win of the season against a strong Colgate side. Colgate’s side, which went 13-0 only to lose in the national tournament last spring, suffered a loss to other Ivy, Yale University 28-0 the week previous. The ensuing match was one to be remembered. A storm swirled in from the west that brought with it two straight hours of rain.

Dartmouth Rugby Takes on Queens and McGill in Preseason Canada Tour

September 6, 2012—Dartmouth Rugby kicked off its preseason this past weekend with a trip to Queens University in Kingston, Ontario. There the Big Green took on Queens as well as traditional cross-border rivals McGill University. The weekend served as an excellent learning experience for a young Dartmouth side under a new coaching staff. Even though the results were not as desired, Captain Michael Burbank ’13 felt the team showed “good defense, good intensity, and finished strong,” and he came out of the weekend optimistic about the upcoming Ivy season.

Brown Bears Defeat Univ of Albany

Brown played a match scrimmage with the University of Albany to jump start the fall 2012 season. The referee was Miles Mcivor who filed the following match report with the New England Referees Society which I found well written and worth passing on to our Brown supporters.

Providence turned on a hot and sunny day for this pre-season clash between Brown University and University of Albany. The playing surface at Brown was impeccable as usual with clearly (and correctly) marked lines and full size goal posts.
