Waterloo Defeats the Big Red 49-36 in an Awesome Match

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Cornell hosted the University of Waterloo, from Ontario, Canada over Labor Day weekend in their first contest of the season. The team highly anticipated this game coming off a successful 4-1 spring season. The match played on a scorching Saturday afternoon began as a contested battle with both teams drawing a score to make it 5-5 in the opening ten minutes. Waterloo’s high-octane offense kicked into gear afterwards scoring forty-one unanswered points in to the half with credit to great ball movement along their back line. It was a tale of two cities in Ithaca though, as the second half belonged to the Big Red. Cornell went on to score thirty-one unanswered points on the Canadian side with scores from Junior Captain Benno Sorenson, Senior Alex Ryde, Junior James Solomon, and Sophomores Andrew Stazuik and Ryan Cleary. The match concluded with a disappointing 49-36 loss but Cornell looks forward to next week when they travel to Hamilton to take on Colgate in pursuit of the Claret Cup.
