USA Rugby 7s National Championship

The Dartmouth Men and the Princeton Women were the top finishers in the Ivy Championships held in Princeton NJ on November 10th and they will represent the Ivy Rugby Conference in the USA Rugby Collegiate 7s National Championship.

Columbia Women 2012 Fall Season Highlights

CUWRFC finished their second 15s season as a member of the Ivy Rugby Conference with a record of 1-4, coming in third place in the White Division.

The season started off with a tough loss to Dartmouth. The next weekend, CUWRFC defeated Penn 21-17 on their home pitch. The game-winning try occurred during the last play of the game, in which there were about 10 minutes of tough phase play inside Penn's 22 meter line before Naomi Sharp ('15) touched the ball down on the far left corner. Isadora Cerullo ('13) scored two tries and made three conversions.

Season Culminates with Ivy Champions

Princeton Women and Dartmouth Men win the Ivy Sevens Championship and earn an automatic bid to the USA Rugby National Sevens Championships.

Princeton Women Win the Ivy Sevens Championships

The Ivy Sevens is a qualifying tournament for the USA Rugby Sevens championship to be held at Texas A&M (College Station, TX) on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.  Last year Princeton Women also qualified for this tournament and finished 3rd in the country.

In the men’s tournament, held at the same time on the same fields, the Princeton Men finished 3rd, after a really tough loss to Penn in the semifinal. Dartmouth, two-time national champion, was clearly the best team in attendance.

Dartmouth Men’s Rugby put in another excellent Fall Ivy Rugby campaign, taking 1st place the Ivy North Division with a record of 5-0-1 and earning a spot in the Spring Ivy Tournament.

USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship

The USA 7s Collegiate Rugby Championship tournament, slated for 2013 in Philadelphia, has released a list of 19 of the 20 teams that will participate in next year's tournament. The list includes two teams from the Ivy Rugby Conference. Dartmouth, two-time defending champion and 2012 Ivy Rugby Conference champion, will return to try to 3-peat in 2013. The University of Pennsylvamia, with their recent crowning as Ivy South champion and runner-up in the Ivy Sevens Championships was also invited.

Penn Women took the plunge this year and joined the Ivy League. Unsure of what to expect, the vets worked hard on recruting during the off season, bringing a wealth of rookies to the team.
