Princeton Tigers Great San Diego Tour

We head back from a week of beautiful weather and very good rugby with our first XV winning its only game and our second XV losing a 15-13 decision to a mostly college team with a Princeton Rugby ’03 alumna  (& US player) and three post-college players in the lineup.  They made a difference, but our kids (we had 15 tour rookies!) played great and we weren’t disappointed (we were, however, disappointed in Cal State-Fullerton, who at the last minute cancelled our first planned fixture on Monday … but we practiced hard to make up for it).

Dartmouth to Compete in Pittsburgh this Weekend

Congratulations to the Dartmouth Men for advancing one round closer to the National Championship! It should be a great weekend for rugby, with the weather predicted to be sunny, but not too hot. Dartmouth will take on the Panthers from the University of Pittsburgh at 12:30 Saturday on the main pitch at Founder's Field in Pittsburgh.

By defeating Brown and Princeton in the Ivy Championships, Dartmouth earned the right to compete in the USA Rugby Round of 16 for a chance at a National Championship.

Princeton vs Navy

It wasn’t conclusive that Navy was better.  We turned over a potential try and Navy scored one that we should have prevented. In other words, it was well within our power to have won. Championship Final.

Princeton Women vs Pittsburg

Pittsburgh had upset UVA in the first game of the weekend with strong forward play.  Early in the game we were pretty even and both of us threatened several times without scoring. We gradually took over from Pitt’s pack, however, and finally a last-second first half drop goal by Lauren Rhode ’12 (as a grad student, Lauren is in her 5th year of eligibility) broke the scoring ice. We took over as the second half progressed and at the end we were in complete control. Pitt is a good team.

Princeton vs Maryland

I remember Maryland as a tough team not that long ago, but they were no match for us at this event.  But not a lot of teams would have been; we played very well.

Princeton Women vs University of North Carolina

UNC had a lethal wing (18-year old freshman, 100-m sprinter that was invited to US Sevens camp) that we didn’t contain well enough, but our forwards dominated as Dot Mittow ’14 scored a hat trick from #8.  Our own speedster, freshman Maddy Lea ’16, scored a fabulous try as well.

Dartmouth Women Host Beantown Bs

The DWRC had the honor of hosting a game between Beantown, a U.S. Premier League club team, and the Quebec Caribou, a Montreal-based Quebec Territorial Representative team, this weekend.  Dartmouth played Beantown B’s for the first game of the day.

The week prior to the match, the DWRC worked on different strategies to defend against Beantown’s forward strength including launching on defense and protecting the ball in contact.

Cornell Men Over Hobart College 53-15

Strong forward play and smooth ball handling in the back line allowed Cornell to breeze to an easy 53-15 victory over Hobart. Despite extremely muddy field conditions at Cornell's home pitch, the Cornell Men were able to handle the ball well and move the pill to space for a series of tries.

Tries were scored by Alex Ryde (2), Ben Krenzer, Andy Stasiuk, Ryan Cleary, Elias Barber, Pierce Janssen and Benno Sorensen.  Cornell closes out the season on April 27th with their annual rivalry with Ithaca College.

Princeton Takes the 2013 Koranda Cup

Despite 5 tries by the Yalies, Princeton squeaks in a last minute try to win the Koranda Cup. The annual rivalry with Yale was a back and forth affair with Yale scoring first, then Princeton took a comanding lead, before Yale answered back to take a lead into the final moments before Princeton took the Cup with no time remaining.
