A Video History of the Koranda Cup

The annual battle for the Koranda Cup is always a competitve match. In 2002, the Yale and Princeton men’s rugby teams established a yearly game between the two schools, renewing a storied rivalry that had petered out during the 1990s. Tiger Flanker Rob Koranda ’02 was on the field for that first contest, which ended in a Princeton victory. Watch the video of the history of the Koranda Cup written, produced, and edited by Tom Frenette and narrated by John Broker.

Dartmouth Defeats University of Pittsburgh - Moves to Round of Eight

In the round of 16 for the USA Rugby D1-AA championship, the DRFC won a wild shootout against the host, the University of Pittsburgh, by a margin of 43-34.

Princeton Tigers Great San Diego Tour

We head back from a week of beautiful weather and very good rugby with our first XV winning its only game and our second XV losing a 15-13 decision to a mostly college team with a Princeton Rugby ’03 alumna  (& US player) and three post-college players in the lineup.  They made a difference, but our kids (we had 15 tour rookies!) played great and we weren’t disappointed (we were, however, disappointed in Cal State-Fullerton, who at the last minute cancelled our first planned fixture on Monday … but we practiced hard to make up for it).

Dartmouth to Compete in Pittsburgh this Weekend

Congratulations to the Dartmouth Men for advancing one round closer to the National Championship! It should be a great weekend for rugby, with the weather predicted to be sunny, but not too hot. Dartmouth will take on the Panthers from the University of Pittsburgh at 12:30 Saturday on the main pitch at Founder's Field in Pittsburgh.

By defeating Brown and Princeton in the Ivy Championships, Dartmouth earned the right to compete in the USA Rugby Round of 16 for a chance at a National Championship.

Princeton vs Navy

It wasn’t conclusive that Navy was better.  We turned over a potential try and Navy scored one that we should have prevented. In other words, it was well within our power to have won. Championship Final.

Princeton Women vs Pittsburg

Pittsburgh had upset UVA in the first game of the weekend with strong forward play.  Early in the game we were pretty even and both of us threatened several times without scoring. We gradually took over from Pitt’s pack, however, and finally a last-second first half drop goal by Lauren Rhode ’12 (as a grad student, Lauren is in her 5th year of eligibility) broke the scoring ice. We took over as the second half progressed and at the end we were in complete control. Pitt is a good team.

Princeton vs Maryland

I remember Maryland as a tough team not that long ago, but they were no match for us at this event.  But not a lot of teams would have been; we played very well.

Princeton Women vs University of North Carolina

UNC had a lethal wing (18-year old freshman, 100-m sprinter that was invited to US Sevens camp) that we didn’t contain well enough, but our forwards dominated as Dot Mittow ’14 scored a hat trick from #8.  Our own speedster, freshman Maddy Lea ’16, scored a fabulous try as well.
