It was a scorching day on a narrow football turf field- not the ideal conditions for a rugby match- but the athletes seemed focused on the task at hand.

Penn women fall to Princeton, 44-15

Even though Penn drew first blood, they were unable to keep up the offensive pressure on the Princeton Tigers. Despite impressive defensive stands, Princeton was able to find holes and capitalize on the Quakers' missteps.

The Tigers outscored Penn 29 to 10 in the first half. The Quakers tightened up their D and played a much more competitive second half scoring once and only allowing 15 second half Princeton points.

Penn tries were scored by from Bridget Amoako (C'17) and Ariana Bray (C'15).

Columbia men 2-1 with win over Cornell

Columbia came on strong in the second half with tries from Keitt, Bradford and Muzikowski to secure a 34-5 victory.

Cornell traveled to Manhattan on the 27th to take on their cross-state rivals Columbia.

Cornell controlled the pace of the game early on, with a try from Lawrence Ntim (Accra, Ghana, '17). Over the course of the second half, however, Columbia overwhelmed the Big Red, piling on both tries and penalty kicks for a final score of 34-5.

Dartmouth men blank Harvard in Boston

Carrying forward the momentum of a 61-10 victory over Cornell in their Ivy League fall opener, the Big Green delivered another impressive performance in Boston this past Saturday.

Discussion across social media and rugby newsletters about Harvard’s 1-0 record abound, Saturday’s meeting with the Crimson held extra import. Coming off a thrice-defeated year against the Dartmouth squad in 2014, Harvard was out for blood. Despite Harvard’s hard charging attitude, the Big Green soundly defeated the Crimson at home, delivering 8 tries while allowing none in a notable 58 – 0 victory.

Cornell Falls to Dartmouth in Hanover

Cornell traveled to Hanover this past weekend to take on Dartmouth in a matchup of the 2013 Ivy South and Ivy North Champions.

Questions about the technicalities of last year’s Ivy League set up and the fallibility of comparison across Ivy League north/south conferences instilled extra significance into Saturday’s game.

Penn women blank Columbia 36-0

Saturday's rainy weather during the Penn and Columbia match did not help the first-game-of-the-season jitters for either team.

Penn got off to a slow start during the evening game, struggling with handling and the defensive pressure from Columbia. Finally at about the 20 minute mark, Emma Edoga (C’16) picked up a loose ball and broke down the field for the first try.

Brown defeats Harvard in first varsity contest

The Brown women's rugby team defeated Harvard on the road in their first-ever ivy league match as a varsity squad.

The newly-christened varsity Bears fought a tough Harvard side to a come-from-behind 24-15 victory. Tries were scored by Capt. Oksana Goretaya ’17, Kiki Morgan ’16 (2) and Amber Reano ’16 with conversions from Sofie Rudin ’17.

"We were very excited to win," Brown women's rugby head coach Kathy Flores said. "While I won't say it was completely unexpected, last year we lost both of our contests with Harvard so we knew it would be a tight match.
