Dartmouth Men Win 10th Consecutive Ivy League Title
Hanover, NH - Dartmouth faced Penn in its last Ivy League game of the fall season. With a 6-0 record, the Big Green played for its 10th straight Ivy League title and a decade of dominance.
Dartmouth came out firing against Penn and a great pass from Ollie Engelhart led to a try from Struan Coleman, who put Dartmouth up 7-0. A couple minutes later, flanker Benji Hannam sliced and diced his way through a number of defenders into the try zone giving Dartmouth a 14-0 lead. On the very next restart Captain Hayden Aldredge fielded the ball and stiff armed his way through four defenders before offloading to Fuller Winter who took it another 30 meters and popped it to Gordon Driscoll, who used some surprising speed to put one under the posts and extend the lead to 21-0. Gordon looked to repay Fuller for the pass and offloaded a great pass to him a couple minutes later leading to another try as Dartmouth went up 28-0.
On the next possession, Luke Bienstock stepped a number of defenders before offloading to Struan Coleman who punched in his second try of the game and extended the lead to 35-0. Anxious to get one of his own, Bienstock was able to use his speed to get his first try of the game as Dartmouth went up 42-0. After picking apart the Penn defense, Dawit Workie finally got a try of his own thanks to a great pass from scrumhalf Pat Sheehy. Workie also connected on the conversion to give Dartmouth a 49-0 lead. Just before time expired in the first half, Workie kicked a ball to the far corner of the field to Julien Johnson who laid out for the ball and got his first try of the game. Dartmouth closed out the half up 54-0.
With a comfortable lead, Dartmouth began to make a couple subs, however the scoring frenzy was nowhere near done. Max Parker got things off to a good start in the second half as he punched in his first try of the game and extended the lead to 59-0. Luke Bienstock got his second try of the game on the next play as Dartmouth went up 64-0. A stolen Penn scrum led to Benji Hannam’s second try of the game and a 71-0 lead for Dartmouth. Luke Bienstock stepped a couple Penn defenders and put one under the posts for his third try of the game, giving Dartmouth a comfortable 76-0 lead.
Some great open field passing led to a try from Captain Hayden Aldredge and an 81-0 lead. With only 10 minutes to go, Dartmouth capitalized on great field position and mauled their way into the try zone giving Gordon Driscoll his second try of the game and extending the lead to 86-0. Some great passing led to a fantastic try in the corner from Dawit Workie as Dartmouth went up 91-0. On the next play Luke Bienstock blew by a number of defenders to grab his 4th try of the game and extended the lead to 98-0. With only seconds left in the game the big man Captain Hayden Aldredge broke through the Penn defense to put one under the posts and break the 100 point barrier, giving Dartmouth a final score of 105-0.
Dartmouth closed out its season with a point differential of 492 points for and 34 points against. It was a great season for the Big Green and a good way to send off the class of 2017.
