Hughes Named “Olympian to Watch” by Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated has named “10 potential first-time US Olympians to watch” and one of them is Madison Hughes, leader of the USA Eagles national sevens team and captain emeritus of the Dartmouth rugby squad.
Hughes is featured alongside other young rising stars including volleyball’s Taylor Sander, track & field’s Ajee Wilson, gold medal favorite gymnast Simone Biles and (already a star) golf’s Jordan Speith.
Hughes, the article points out, “led the World Rugby HSBC Sevens World Series tournament with 65 points and seven five-point tries as the U.S. won its first world rugby sevens world series title”—referring to the Eagles’ win at the London Sevens, which preceded their defeat of Canada at the NACRA Sevens in June to quality for the 2016 games in Rio.
Could Madison Hughes become a household name next summer? Sports Illustrated seems to think so.
