CRC Report: Dartmouth Falls in Plate Final
After a 20-5 victory over Air Force in the Plate Semis, Dartmouth could not overcome a tough UCLA team in the Plate Final of the 2015 Collegiate Rugby Championships in Philadelphia, losing to the Bruins 33-5.
Saturday saw the Big Green (ranked 17th in Goff Rugby's national men's 7s poll) chalk a 15-10 victory over Penn State, defeating a physical Nittany Lions team with superior speed and agility. Dartmouth also won over St. Joes earlier in the day, but was not able to crack a tough Arizona defense in the third game of the day, losing 24-0.
Saturday’s 2-1 record gave Dartmouth a #1 seed in the Plate tournament going into Sunday’s finals. The Big Green managed a top-10 overall CRC showing despite playing without team captain Madison Hughes, who is prepping for the NACRA Sevens (June 13-14) with the USA Eagles team.
Penn Shows Grit, Goes 1-2 in City 4 Competition
In the all-Philadelphia bracket at the CRCs, Penn defeated La Salle 17-0 in the consolation match played in PPL Park. The Quakers fell just short against Villanova, losing to the Wildcats 10-12, and also played well against eventual champ Drexel, losing 7-12 in a defensive battle.
