Ivy 7s Championship Tournament Preview
The Ivy Rugby Conference is all set for their annual Fall 7s tournament, held this year in beautiful Princeton, New Jersey. There will be action on both the Men's and Women's side of the ball throughout the day, and there are sure to be a lot of competitive matches.
Games will take place on one of two fields, and the day will start at 9:00am with Dartmouth Men taking on Columbia on Field 1 while Princeton and Harvard square off on Field 2. The women kickoff at 10:00am with Priceton v. Penn and Columbia v. Yale. Matches will continue throughout the day. The women's final kicks off at 2:20 and the men kickoff at 3:00pm.
Storylines and Rankings
There are a couple storylines worth paying attention to throughout the day. After two weeks of 7s prep, the Dartmouth and Brown Men's squads are the top ranked teams with Dartmouth winning last week over Brown in the final and Brown defeating Dartmouth in the final the week before. Since the South didn't get a chance to play any sevens in a competitive setting this season, expect its' teams to be a little rusty out of the gate. Regardless, as the day goes on, this figures to be less and less of an issue.
Coming into the event, here's what the rankings look like on the Men's side.
- Dartmouth
- Cornell
- Brown
- Princeton
- Yale
- Columbia
- Harvard
- Dartmouth B
The women will play a 4 team event with Princeton set as the pre-tournament favorite.
Both the men and the women will send their champion off to the USA Rugby 2013 National Collegiate Sevens Championships to be held on November 23-24 in Greensboro, NC.
