Brown Men's Rugby Clinches 4th Consecutive Ivy League Championship Against Dartmouth

In an impressive display of skill and strategic execution, Brown Men's Rugby emerged victorious in the Ivy League Championship on October 26 at Berylson Family Fields, overcoming Dartmouth College 40-14 under sunny skies with challenging gusty winds.

The match began with Brown establishing a dominant lead, going into halftime with a score of 28-0. Leo Clayburgh, Garett Mann, Kaspar Pitblado, and Santiago Cortabarria all scored tries in the first half, setting a tone of aggressive play and tactical prowess. Raphael Lannsonneur's conversions further solidified the lead. The second half saw Tito Edjua scoring twice, answering each of Dartmouth's tries scored during the latter half of the match.

A significant aspect of the match was the extraordinary defensive performance by the forward pack, who were pivotal in halting Dartmouth’s advances and securing turnovers on the goal line. This defensive strength was critical, particularly when Dartmouth applied pressure in the second half. Their resilience in defending their territory was a cornerstone in maintaining the sizeable lead.

Coach David Laflamme reflected on the victory, stating,

"Playing for the Ivy League Championship is a special opportunity and being able to host Dartmouth during Family Weekend made it all the better. We prepared for a tough matchup and Dartmouth gave us a good test, especially in the second half when Dartmouth had us under pressure defending our goal line for longer than we’d like. Our players put in a tremendous defensive effort to stop several tries from strong carries in close and protect our lead late in the game."

The championship win pushes Brown’s season record to an impeccable 7-0. They look ahead to their next challenge against the Fordham University Rams on October 26th at 2pm on Marvel Field which will conclude the Liberty Conference play and the regular season. With the team riding high on their current success, the upcoming fixture promises to be another exciting event for Brown Men’s Rugby while the club awaits postseason seeding.
