Brown Men’s Rugby Gears up for the Fall with Pre-Season Training

Pre-season training got underway on Monday, August 27 with morning and afternoon sessions to prepare for our Ivy League season. Pre-season will include twice daily training through Tuesday, September 4th when classes begin. During pre-season, there will be a scrimmage at Brown against the University of Albany, New York on Saturday, September 1st and a match at Norwich University on Saturday, September 8th.

With the graduation of a strong senior class that led Brown to a 2011-2012 record of 13-4 this year, the squad will need excellent preparation and some new players to provide new talent and depth to the team.

The coaching staff has seen some changes with George Pratt and Danny Saccoccio stepping down from their coaching positions this fall. The rest of the staff in intact with head coach Dave Laflamme and assistants Oliver Julyan, John McGeachy, Tyler Dixon, along with a new coach Mike Liberatore. Our athletic trainers will again be Kelly Teixeira and Amanda Moran. The Foundry Sports Medicine Clinic will provide concussion testing and be our primary resource for injuries.

Our fall schedule is listed below and you will notice some changes. Due to the cost of travel around the entire Ivy League, our fall season this year will only be against the 4 northern Ivy teams, which we will play both home and away. This structure will seed the 4 northern teams which will then play off with our southern Ivy brethren in the spring of 2013.

Another aspect of our fall season is that it ends early enough to allow Brown to compete in several fall 7’s competitions which is a new emphasis for Ivy Rugby as USA Rugby begins to put more focus on this exciting version of the game. The 7’s schedule will be forthcoming soon.

Sept. 8: Norwich University: away @ 2:00 pm
Sept. 15: Yale University: away @ 1:00 pm
