Dartmouth Women with Important Early Win Over Brown
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Dartmouth women’s rugby team won its 2016 Ivy opener Saturday morning at Marvel Field, putting on a dominating performance against Brown that culminated in a 51-18 victory.
Dartmouth traveled to Brown to kickoff the fall season in this Tier 1 matchup. The win pushed the Big Green to 2-1 overall this season as they bounced back from a loss at Army last Friday. The game marked just the second this season for the Bears, whose record now stands at 1-1 following the lopsided 33-point loss at the hands of their conference foes from Hanover.
Dartmouth did a good chunk of its damage in the opening half, carrying a 34-8 lead into the break. Freshman Frankie Sands had a pair of first-half tries, while sophomore Kat Ramage had two successful conversions and her first try of the season in the stanza as well.
Sophomore Karina Ramirez (11’) and freshman Isabel Boettcher (38’) also notched their first tries of the season in the opening period as the Green got off to a quick start on Saturday morning.
The trend continued in the second half as junior Morgan McGonagle also recorded her first score of the year, touching down in the 63rd minute. Rookie Eva Klein also got in for her second try in as many games just 10 minutes later.
Freshman Becca Jane Rosko scored once in the first half (35’) and again in the final minute of regulation, giving her a team-leading four tries and 20 points this season. Ramage’s third successful conversion of the day capped the scoring and moved her into second on the team with 17 points in three games.
Dartmouth is home next Saturday against Columbia and a development match against the University of New England. Both games will be at Brophy Field.
