Dartmouth Women Debut Varsity Play With Win
The Dartmouth women’s rugby team played its first game as a varsity squad on Saturday, defeating the University of Pennsylvania 77-5.
Scoring kicked off with #5 Ashley Zepeda crossing the line four minutes in. Big Green jumped out to a 29-0 lead midway through the first half and led 48-5 at the half.
Freshman Kat Ramage, a Morris Rugby alum, finished with 13 points in her first match with the team. Yejadai Dunn dotted down three times for a game-high 15 points.
Penn’s Emma Edoga scored the team’s lone try 23 minutes into the first half.
“We’re empowering every player on the pitch to be a decision-maker, a playmaker, a striker and a running threat,” coach Katie Dowty told Dartmouth Sports. “That lends itself to a really dynamic style of play, and our forwards love it.”
Dartmouth next plays Quinnipiac on Sept. 19.
