Brown women handle Dartmouth on home turf
It was a scorching day on a narrow football turf field- not the ideal conditions for a rugby match- but the athletes seemed focused on the task at hand.
The intense battle between Dartmouth and Brown began from the opening whistle and often looked more like the game for which the field was intended. Dartmouth's signature fleet-footed backline and mobile forwards had trouble generating offense within the 50 yard width limits, while Brown's impressive forwards worked with their inside backs to piece together vertical attacks that required commitment of a large number of Dartmouth defenders.
Both teams came out hard with the Green on defense for the opening minutes of the game. Within 6 minutes the Brown forwards had forced their way over the try line. The added conversion signaled the beginning of a long hard match.
At half the score stood at 28-0 Brown. The second half saw the Big Green making offensive adjustments and more aggressively handling Brown's attack. After several good offensive series, Audrey Perez ’17 broke free for a long run into the try zone for what turned out to be Dartmouth's lone try. The successful conversion by Michaela Conway ’15 brought the score to 33-7. Brown managed three more tries in the second half despite Dartmouth's increased aggression, and the game ended at 43-7.
