Penn Women Defeat Yale, 67-22

In a game in which both possession and scoring were dominated by the winning side, the Penn Women's Rugby Club was able to pull out a victory on the road at Yale.  Penn wasted no time putting points on the board, scoring their first try within the first two and a half minutes of the game and never looking back - the Quakers scored four unanswered tries within the first 26 minutes of the match.Yale was able to generate some offense by putting two tries on the board before the half, but the high-powered offense of Penn proved to be too much for the Bulldogs who dropped their second match in a row.

Penn's defense contributed to their win just as much as their offense - the match's outcome was not a reflection of Yale's inability to score as much as a show of the Penn's ability to stifle a physical and tenacious Yale offense. "We have a long way to go but we are taking steps in the right direction," said Penn head coach Emily Record. "[We] put in a lot of work last Spring and early this season, and it's starting to show."

With this game in the books, Penn starts their league season with a 1-0 record while Yale drops to 0-1. Both teams will be in action this coming weekend - Penn will continue their road trip with a game at Cornell, while Yale will look to bring their record back to .500 as they visit Columbia.
