Dartmouth Men Put 91 on the Board Against Yale
Dartmouth ventured south this weekend for their first regular season matchup with the Bulldogs. Ivy League North foe Yale had proved tough in past years, but the Big Green got off to a quick start and were able to establish control early. The final tally on Yale’s pitch came to 91-0 in favor of Dartmouth.
Contributions on this day came from all ends with thirteen different ruggers scoring for Dartmouth. Captain Madison Hughes ’15 led the way for the second straight week with 12 points, all coming from his foot before being subbed out at halftime. Erik Warnquist ‘16, Colin Walmsley ‘15, Pat Flynn ‘13, John Descalzi ’14 and Dylan Jones ’14 all had noteworthy performances as well adding two tries apiece.
Hughes explained, “This was a great opportunity for us to spread valuable minutes out to our entire squad. A strong early performance allowed us to test our depth, and several people got their first extended looks in the 1st XV. We were happy with several performances, as these players maintained, and lifted in some areas, the level that had earlier been established.”
Dartmouth’s defense proved very strong as well, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for 80 minutes.
“We set ourselves some defensive goals which we executed well and I am happy with our progress from the week before,” said Dartmouth coach Gavin Hickie.
Hickie continued, "We still have plenty of work to do. Our set piece is improving each week and it’s an area we want to focus on in training."
In 2nd XV action, freshman fullback Max Parker had a standout performance with three tries in his Dartmouth debut. The Big Green 2nd XV went on to a 36-22 win.
