Yale Alumni Weekend - Walbridge Wager Match
This year's Yale Rugby Alumni Weekend, the Eighth Annual, will be held in New Haven April 26-28. It's time to finalize your plans. Based upon the early responses Yale Aluni representatives anticipate a strong showing of both men's and women's alumni/ae. With this shaping up to be the best turnout ever it would help the organizers to get a firm commitment from those of you who will be attending.
Friday Festivities
Festivites will begin on Friday April 26th. Anyone interested in some mild aerobic training with limited stretching and liquid carbo loading (i.e. Golf) let me know and I will set it up for Friday. Those of you arriving later or who don't believe in stretching, we will be gathering at Anna Liffy's on Friday from whenever till closing.
Saturday's Events
Saturday will begin with a mandatory morning presentation from the Strategic Development Group to lay out the master plan for the future of Yale Rugby. I think you will be impressed with the amount of work that has been going on behind the scenes.
The matches will start at approximately noon on Saturday. The women's team and alumnae will have a match of some persuasion that has yet to be determined. The Young Alumni (Walbridgers ) will attempt to extend their winning streak over the Undergrad First XV to 2. There will be two matches for the Older Alums (NOB's). First, a competitive 60 minute match verses the Undergrad Second XV. We will be out to avenge our only series loss. Following the NOB's victory there will be a social match, which will consist of as many halves as there is interest. This match promises to be very entertaining with unlimited substitution, a mix of undergrads, alumni and alumnae if interested. Please contact your respective captains with your playing intentions so we can make sure to have the appropriate roster coverage:
Walbridgers - sean [dot] walbridgegmail [dot] com
Competitive NOB's match - david [dot] batemanklgates [dot] com
NOB's & ? social match - carberyhomehotmail [dot] com
Please let us know your intentions. Also, please make an honest effort to evaluate your "current" capabilities. Your safety and enjoymen,t along with that of your teammates and opponents will benefit from a dose of realism. The NOB's trainer, Trish Meegan, has asked to be notified of any artifical joints or pacemakers prior to the match. You get the idea. Anyone who is planning on attending but is too smart to think about playing, please contact me at: boschlandAOL [dot] com Also spouses, significant others and children are welcome. If you could let me know a head count it would help us plan for Saturday's dinner, which will be held on campus at the Hall of Graduate Studies.
After dinner the festivities will move to the rugby house where Senior B-Side captain Charlton "Chuckles" Field and distinguished alumnus Ben Quinones have issued a "last man or woman standing " challenge that threatens to be a debacle of biblical proportions.
Hope to See You There
I hope that many of you will make the effort to join us this year. With participants traveling half way around the world to attend, there is really no excuse for not making the effort to be here. You won't know what we're saying about you unless you're here. Please respond early so that we can properly arrange matches and meals. As in all prior years I look forward to seeing most of you.
