Tigers Win over Women of Cornell

Ithaca, NY – Despite a rainy start to the match, Cornell and Princeton Women played a strong game of rugby, resulting in a non-division victory for Princeton, with a final score of 39-10 over Cornell.

Each team put forth a solid forward pack, but tries were scored by both backs and forwards on both teams. Princeton scored its first try less than ten minutes into the first half, followed by a second one less than five minutes later. Neither was converted, giving Princeton an early lead, 10-0. A third try was attempted shortly after, but Cornell showed a valiant effort and held it up, though Princeton did score another unconverted try minutes later, and then their fourth try and first conversion, bringing the score to 22-0.

Cornell showed great strength in Princeton’s 22, and fly flyhalf Lee Fleisher ’14 scored Cornell’s first try (unconverted) after a beautiful run by Cornell’s backs. Princeton also scored another unconverted try, resulting in a score of 27-5 at the half.

Princeton scored two more tries, one unconverted and one converted, for a score of 39-5, before Cornell’s outside center Ashley Benson ’13 attempted to score a try of her own after kicking the ball into touch, though the referee finally declared it held up. Frustrated, Cornell did not let the call discourage them, and prop Hemavattie Ramtahal ’13 scored a try two minutes later, bringing what would be the final score to 39-10.
