Brown continued its dominance over Dartmouth beating the Big Green for the 7th consecutive year with a score of 10-0.

DWRC faced off against Brown on a muddy and slippery pitch. Dartmouth used a kicking game to gain territory in the first half but struggled to maintain possession in the face of Brown’s aggression. Brown’s dominance in the rucks limited the DWRC’s offensive opportunities. Brown showed good controlled aggression in the loose setting sturdy platforms for scrum half Vanessa Munoz '13 and stealing some key Dartmouth rucks. Captain Michelle VanderPloeg MAT '13 scored in the 13th minute driving over from a quick ruck to put Brown up 5-0. Center Erica Florenz missed a difficult kick by inches but Brown looked comfortable and in control.Though Dartmouth’s defense prevented Brown’s strong runners from scoring on breakthroughs and succeeded in holding up two tries in the first half, Brown was able to drive in two tries to bring the score to 0-10.

Although one yellow card in each half left Dartmouth a player down for much of the game, the DWRC’s strong and sustained defensive playing held Brown at bay and resulted in a scoreless second half. Numerous and impressive tackles by flyhalf Karoline Walter ’13 around the rucks were a tremendous asset to Dartmouth’s defense.

Dartmouth sought to take its intensity and aggression up a few notches in the second half but could not find a way to fully capitalize on offensive opportunities. Though breakthroughs and attempted offloads in the centers showed promise, Dartmouth failed to get the ball all the way out to the wings due to Brown’s aggressive defense and sloppy weather conditions that made for a slippery ball.

Brown 10 - Dartmouth 0

The Brown 2nd XV's showed great promise in a losing effort to a Dartmouth 2nd XV side. The Brown scrum showed great tenacity taking on a big and experienced Green side. First year scrumhalf Amber Reano '16 was fantastic as she led her teammates with example and voice. Flyhalf Monica Roth showed composure and power directing the line. Monica passed to center Kat Reardon '14 who ran with power and authority, dragging a number of Dartmouth defenders. Wing Jasmine Mcadams '16 was a terrific surprise as she ran, tackled and inspired her teammates in her first outing as a Brown rugger. Brown was strong throughout the match but showed real heart with minutes left in the match. Down 5-0 Jasmine McAdams ran 60 meters down to the Green 20 meter line. Brown punched their way to the 5 and first year Ebony McCaskill took a tap and ran through the Dartmouth defense for what seemed to be the tying score but the ball was knocked in goal and Brown was denied as the final whistle blew.
