Cornell Women 29, UConn 5
Cornell Women, representing Upstate NY, marked the lone non-NERFU win for all of women's Northeast DI and DII playoff matches this weekend. The New York State champion used the miserable freezing rain and muddy conditions to produce a 29-7 victory over the University of Connecticut.
"The weather led to an unusally high number of knock-ons and scrumdowns," Cornell's Alison Baker said. "But this was actually an advantage, since it's one of our team's major strengths. We won all of our scrums and some of theirs, which helped us maintain possession for the majority of the game."
UConn's eightman was the evident go-to scorer, picking from the base of the ruck on numerous occasions, but Cornell flankers Naquell Stephenson and Katrina Fahey kept her in check the entire match.
