“PLAY ON” Receives Great Critical Feedback
“It’s not always what you do that matters. It’s what you do next. Get up. Play on”. So goes the tagline from the latest full-length feature production to join the ranks of rugby movies like “Invictus” and “Forever Strong”. The film “Play On” was made possible largely through the efforts of two Dartmouth Rugby alumni; Dave Story Class of ’85 directed and co-wrote the film, while Class of ’87 alum and former USA 7’s Captain Al Dekin co-wrote and produced the movie.
Released late in 2010, “Play On” tells an inspirational tale of overcoming adversity and developing personal character through rugby, with off-the-field action playing as much of a part of the film’s plot as the sport itself. The film tracks the shifting world of rugby in the 1990’s, a different time when amateurism was held at a premium and rugby was beginning to come into its own as an international sport on the scale of soccer or other major competitive games. The protagonist, Scottish rugby star Keir Killgour, comes to America in pursuit of fame in the NFL, but finds himself stranded when his transition to the new sport doesn’t go as smoothly as planned. However, when a local Division 2 rugby club takes him under their wing, Keir is able to find some stability and redemption, rekindle his love for the game and return to the world of rugby.
“Play On” is available for download on iTunes, and has received an average of 5 out of 5 stars from iTunes reviewers. It can be accessed at the link below:
