Yale Soundly defeats Brown
Instead of being pumped up from a very productive Bermuda Tour, Brown seemed to have lost its way as Yale beat Brown convincingly 33-17. As in the first Bermuda match versus the Police, the Bears conceded the first half by allowing Yale an 18-5 lead. Yale ran through 3 unconverted tries and added a penalty kick.
New Haven, Connecticut Brown was only able to put center Dow Travers’11 over the line in the 28th minute on a pass from fly half Zahid Jethani’13. The forwards were up to the task, winning several phases of ball on the way to this score, but had trouble maintaining possession and continuity throughout the match. Yale was opportunistic to take advantage of Brown mistakes but also was able to beat Brown on the outside with superior speed. The day was clear and warm and field conditions were excellent. Brown needed a strong second half start to reverse the momentum, but Yale scored within the first minute to up the Yale lead to 23-5. Brown hooker Dan Levine-Spound’12 scored off a lineout but Yale followed with another try for a 28-10 lead at the 53 minute mark. Yale’s final score raised the score to 33-10 with 22 minutes left in the match. With the match essentially over Brown prevented any further damage and was able to score a nice backline try as center James McGinn’12 found an opening in the line with 7 on the clock. The try was converted by Jethani, the only conversion of the match. The match referee was Chris Pickard.
