Yale and Brown tune up for Las Vegas 7s
On Saturday, Yale travelled to Brown to play on Berylson field to prepare for the Las Vegas 7s. Both teams are leaving on Wednesday and it was a great chance to play some competitive 7s rugby before they leave.
During the first part of the day, each team prepared on its own, going through defensive drills and ball handling drills. Then the two teams came together for some controlled scrimmaging, each team working on kickoffs, lineouts and scrums.
The day ended with a full scrimmage consisting of 4, 7-minute periods. Yale had a slow start to the scrimmage in the first three periods. Yale committed too many mistakes and turnovers which resulted in scores for Brown. However in the 4th period, as the young side developed a little experience and confidence, Yale played much better.
Yale players that stood out were Rob Morse (’12), Mack Hull (’13) and Tim Brooks (’15). Co-captain John Lesnewich rolled over on his ankle and is questionable to play in Las Vegas.
Stay tuned.
