Spring 1966 Brown Men

The Brown University Men were Commonwealth Cup champions in the spring of 1966. Among those pictured above in the team victory photo are Bob Far '67, today a member of the Ivy Rugby Conference finance committee, and Dave Zucconi '55, later Executive Director of the Brown Sports Foundation. Francis E. "Chip" Horahan '66 (top tow, far left) was killed in Vietnam and recently honored in a Memorial Day ceremony at Brown.
Rugby was introduced to Brown by Zucconi (bottom row, second from the right).

Princeton Women Travel to Hong Kong Before the CRCs

The following was published on the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship website on April 26. The Princeton women traveled to Hong Kong in March on their first-ever trip to Asia, and have been otherwise very busy this spring. In addition to hosting the Rickerson Cup and the Women's Ivy 7s, they came in 4th in the West Chester 7s and 2nd overall at the Penn State 7s on May 15, winning 4 out of 5 games.

The Dartmouth Rugby Football Club went 3-3 on the day at the Army 7s on May 15, including victories over Penn State and Army.

Kathy Flores

Kathy Flores to Be Inducted Into U.S. Rugby Hall of Fame

Brown women’s rugby coach Kathy Flores has been named one of eight 2016 inductees into the U.S. Rugby Hall of Fame. An awards ceremony and dinner will take place June 4 at the Loews Philadelphia Hotel, during the Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship.

Princeton takes down Brown at home

Princeton ends their season with a win against Brown, 37-20. Even with their loss, Brown remains as #2 in the Ivies.  

Princeton awarded senior Lucas Mazzotti as man of the match. 

 

Penn Defeated Columbia on a Beautiful Fall Day in Penn Park

Columbia rallied to score a bonus point but Penn was too much at home for the traveling Lions.

Dartmouth Men Win Ivy Title

Hanover, NH- Dartmouth faced Penn in its last Ivy League game of the fall season. With a 6-0 record, the Big Green played for its 10th straight Ivy League title and a decade of dominance.

1st XV Princeton Men at Cornell Men

Cornell’s final game of the season was against Princeton. After an extremely tough road schedule playing four straight away games, the Big Red was looking forward to playing on friendly turf. Unfortunately, after having a substantial lead, Princeton walked away with a win after two last minute tries. 

1st XV Columbia Men at Yale Men

Yale defeated Columbia 59-32.

Pre Game

Columbia travels to Yale for a rare Sunday match. Kick off at 12.00pm & 1.30pm. This Sunday, Columbia travel to New Haven for the Ivy league round 6 game. This promises to be a great game.

This is a very young Bulldog side (17 freshman and sophomore students in the matchday 23), who are steadily improving this season, however the performances have not been mirrored by results. Columbia to have put in some very strong performances, and like Yale have not translated that into points.

2016 Koranda Cup

Led by Captain Anteneh Sarbanes ’16, Princeton won the 15th annual Koranda Cup match 31-19 against Yale University, retaining the Cup for the 5th straight year. The annual meeting between Princeton and Yale took place April 23 at Rickerson Field. 

Princeton got off to a fast start, playing some of its best rugby all year, and led 31-5 thirty-five minutes into the game. Overall five tries were scored with backs and forwards working together to move the ball across the pitch.
