Ivy Weekend Wrap-Up - 9/28/13

It was an intense week of rugby in the Ivy Rugby Conference, and we've got the scoop on all the final scores and top stories from each game.

Men's League

Penn 12 @ Cornell 21
Cornell came into this week's with their first division lead since 2005. After all was said and done, they managed to come through the other side while retaining possession of first place - but not without having to face off against a physical Penn team that made the game even closer than the final score of 21-12 would suggest.

Princeton 12 @ Columbia 24
In a match that saw Columbia overcome an 8-3 Princeton lead at halftime, the Lions managed to pick up a win at home in a match at New York City's Randall's Island. The game started slow, with sloppy play on both sides leading to a low-scoring, physical, defensive first half.

Brown 0 @ Dartmouth 50
Dartmouth returned home this weekend for their first meeting of the season with Ivy North rival Brown.  The Bears had proved to be the Big Green’s stiffest league competition in recent years, forcing a draw oat Dartmouth's Brophy Field last year. Knowing the Bears to be a tough and worthy opponent, Dartmouth went into the match looking to implement the systems they’d worked on in training and improve from the week before.  The Big Green established control early and didn’t look back on their way to a 50-0 victory in front of the home crowd.

Yale 20 @ Harvard 40
Harvard held a one point margin at the break 14-13, with an intense first half of back and forth rugby. Harvard then managed to outscore Yale in the second half by four  tries to just one led by fly half Nick Moore '14.

Women's League

Penn 67 @ Yale 22
In a game in which both possession and scoring were dominated by the winning side, the Penn Women's Rugby Club was able to pull out a victory on the road at Yale, 67-22.

Harvard 5 @ Dartmouth 10
Dartmouth was able to grind out a close, 5 point 10-5 lead at home in a physical game against visiting Harvard.

Brown 34 @ Princeton 24
In one of the most entertaining matches of the season, Brown was able to hold an impressive early lead on the road against a resilient Princeton team and win, 34-24.

Columbia 0 @ Cornell 90
The Cornell Women's Rugby Club played host to Columbia this past weekend on a beautiful Saturday morning in Ithaca. In a game that featured an offensive explosion by the Big Red, Cornell took an early lead and didn't look back, keeping their foot on the gas pedal for the length of the match to finish with a 90-0 victory.
