Harvard defeats Toulouse Universite Club on last minute kick
Having suffered a tough loss in Toulouse last year, the HRFC was determined to achieve a different outcome on a cold, rainy afternoon in Cambridge. The weather was in the HRFC’s favor, as their formidable strength and size advantage was utilized in full force while hampering the Toulouse Universite Club’s excellent passing and speed.
The opposing play styles were evident within the first minute as Harvard dominated scrums and rucks while the nimble backs play of TUC granted them several impressive drives. TUC drew first blood with a penalty kick early in the half, followed by another several minutes later. Harvard remained scoreless throughout the half, while TUC secured another try, bringing the score at the half to 11-0.
Harvard came back with a vengeance at the start of the second half thanks to increased aggression and physicality. Gabe Cunningham ‘13 fought through the TUC defense for a hard-earned unconverted try, followed with another unconverted try as Harvard smashed through the tiring TUC defense. In the closing minutes of the half Jonathan Miller ‘10 sealed the Harvard victory with a stunning penalty kick, bringing the final score to 13-11.
