Brown Playoff Bid Spoiled by Crimson 24-25
Saturday October 24, 2009
Brown University became one of the biggest surprises of the Ivy League Championship Series by finishing in the top four of the Ivies and coming moments away from representing the Ivy League in the Northeast Playoffs. The top two teams in the Northeast playoffs move on to USA Rugby's national tournament. Brown, after moving up from New England's Division II to compete in the Ivies, was expected to struggle against the Ivy squads who competed in D1 in 2008.
Harvard finished second in the inaugural season of the Ivy League Rugby Championship Series with only one regular season loss to Dartmouth and the narrow victory over Brown. The Crimson decisively defeated Brown 69-11 in their first meeting back on September 26th. Harvard heads upstate to play the Upstate NY champion the Syracuse Hammerheads this Saturday. The game will be contested on SU's on-campus pitch in Syracuse, NY.
