Columbia Turns In Strong Performance at Ivy 7s Tournament

Columbia Huddles Up

Following a season that was disappointing to the club, CURFC entered into the Ivy Sevens tournament with a chip on their shoulder looking for a shot at redemption. Fielding two sides coached by Daniel Kennedy, Columbia traveled to Princeton for the day-long tournament.

Opening against a strong Dartmouth side, coming off of a national championship, CURFC's A side fell 26-0. Similarly, the B-side found a challenge with Dartmouth's third side, falling 17-7. However, with a hint of urgency and a determination to win, CURFC As defeated Princeton 21-5 and the B-side similarly dispatched Princeton 21-7.

In a nail-biting match against Harvard, CURFC scored immediately off of the initial kickoff to then find themselves down 19-7 at the half. After the half, the A-side willed themselves back with dazzling offense and unbreakable defense for 7 minutes stealing the victory with a score of 21-19. The B-side handily dispatched Yale 21-7.

In the knock out rounds, the A-side came up against Dartmouth's second side, who surprised our side with impressive ball work, generation some missed tackles. A strong second half by CURFC proved to be too little too late, as they fell 26-14, leading to a Dartmouth- Dartmouth final. The B-side also found difficulty against Dartmouth in their cup final, losing 3 scores to 1.

CURFC's strong outing at the tournament, leaving with a third and second place trophy placed a ket end-note on the fall season. With a young side entering into the spring, the momentum that was caught at the Sevens tournament should only grow.

A special thanks to Will Haining who played his last game for the club and graduates this winter.
