The Ivy League
Ivy League is the name generally applied to eight universities (Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Pennsylvania, Princeton, and Yale) that over the years have had common interests in scholarship as well as in athletics. Stanley Woodward, New York Herald Tribune sports writer, coined the phrase in the early thirties.
Dartmouth Defeats UDel 15-5
Dartmouth kicked off against the University of Delaware at 1:00 at Frazier Field. Chris Downer scored the first try of the match by recovering his own kick for a try. The conversion was no good. Dartmouth 5 - 0 Delaware. Delaware scored the next try off a rolling maul. Dartmouth 5 - 5 Delaware. Still in the first 20 minutes, Chris Downer passed it to his brother Nick for the try. The conversion was once again no good by Brothers. Dartmouth 10-5 over Delaware.

Posted: 12/14/2010Dartmouth Rugby Adopts Army Unit Serving in Afghanistan
Hanover, NH - Dartmouth Rugby has adopted Delta Troop of 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry, currently deployed to Kandahar province in southern Afghanistan. The team recently shipped care packages to the unit, hoping to bring some holiday cheer to the troops. Players raised several hundred dollars to create and send the packages, which included candy, snacks, DVDs, batteries, magazines, and baby wipes. A Dartmouth match jersey, a ball signed by the team, and a team photo taken in front of the beautiful Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse were also shipped overseas.

Congratulations to Taylor on being named a 2010 Kevin Higgins College Scholarship recipient.
San Diego, CA (November 1, 2010) - Taylor Johnson has always excelled scholastically. She was the 2010 class valedictorian at View Park Prep High in Los Angeles, CA graduating with a 4.1 GPA. “Her work ethic on the rugby field equals her work ethic for her studies,” said Stuart Krohn, Director of Inner City Education Foundation (ICEF) Rugby and Johnson’s rugby coach. “Academics were all she had ever seriously pursued until she found rugby.”

The ball carrier is Bill Mercer, Yale Class of 1956. Notes Numbers on jerseys for Yale? The ball is already out to the wing and the pack hasn’t disengaged yet I'm guessing the opposing team may be Dartmouth 90 (though it's just speculation)

Mark Burke and Tal Bayer got together a few years back to start a rugby team. What makes the story special is that Burke is the Athletic Director for the Model Secondary School for the Deaf (MSSD). Burke sought out Bayer, rugby coach at the Hyde Leadership Public Charter School, who already had an established team.

The DWRC secured its 10th bid into the National Collegiate Division I Round of Sixteen with a come-from-behind win against an aggressive Cornell side. The 17-15 nail-biter was a hard-fought, gritty match in which both teams had everything to prove and the winner would receive the third and final seed from the Northeast into the “Big Show”. (Army beat Brown on Sunday to take the first and second seeds, respectively.)

No surprises here: Army and Brown played in the Northeast Women's DI College Championship. The two teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack, but this weekend proved that the teams are still works in progress.
