Harvard University 32 - Cornell University 7
Cornell played one of their best games of the season leading and holding Harvard close throughout the entire match. Cornell came out fired and determined to prove to themselves and others that they were not a team to be taken lightly.
An excellent kick-off led to Cornell working the ball down to Harvard's 5 meter line before Cornell's Maxim Schuler went to the blind side of the ruck and scored. Matt Mullery converted, putting Cornell up 7-0 after two minutes of play. Cornell continued to play good, hard rugby winning scrums, line-outs and getting good distribution of the ball. Harvard were eventually able to get one try back however Cornell continued to press for Harvard's try line. On the stroke of half time Matt Mullery scored a drop kick off of a free-kick, to Cornell's delight, however it was called back since a drop kick can only be scored after contact. Cornell left the field leading 7-5 and fired up for the remainder of the game.
Harvard made some key substitutions in the second half and they began to show as Harvard slowly began to get back into the match. Cornell continued to play hard and even after two Harvard tries and the score 15-7 to Harvard, the game remained close and Cornell continued to press for a winning try. The game remained close up until the 70th minute when Harvard was finally able to put the game out of Cornell's reach.
Overall it was a fantastic game where Cornell held it's own against the 23rd ranked team in the Nation and proved once again that it is a team that will soon be a force to reckon with. much of Cornell's squad is made up of freshmen and sophomores.
