Harvard women defeat Dartmouth, 10-5
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - On a rainy Saturday morning, Harvard women's rugby (3-2, 3-2) was triumphant over Dartmouth (2-3, 2-2), 10-5, at Cumnock Field. The Crimson now leads the all-time series against the Big Green, 2-1.
The first half saw Harvard dominate, playing deep in Dartmouth territory for the majority of the half, but the Big Green defense held strong. With seconds left in extra time, Lenica Morales-Valenzuela was able to punch it in after a Dartmouth foul at the goal line. With the first 40 minutes in the books, the Crimson was in the lead 5-0.
The second half saw much of the same tough play from both teams. With 8:35 left to play, Dartmouth got on the board with its first try of the match to tie things up at 5-5.
Well in to extra time, the Crimson made a final march down field that was punctuated with a game winning try from senior captain Hope Schwartz.
The Crimson closes out the regular season Sunday, Oct. 26, against Navy in Providence, Rhode Island.
