Penn Men Top Columbia On the Road, 42-30
The Fall 2013 season has not been particularly kind to Columbia. Despite several strong performances, their record sat at 1-2 coming into their home match against rival Penn this past Saturday. Columbia managed to put together a lead going into the final minutes of the match but a series of crucial mistakes as well as increasingly solid play on Penn's part led to a 42-30 win for the Quakers at Randall's Island field in New York City.
Columbia showed flashes of brilliance in the first half of the action. An early try set them up 7-3, and despite Penn responding with a try of their own Columbia managed to put together another try with a follow-up penalty kick to lead 10-8. More physical play at the line put Columbia up 15-8 going into the half. Despite a quick try by Columbia, Penn found another gear and tacked on a penalty kick and a try to take a 1 point lead, 23-22. A Calello penalty kick gave took the lead back from Penn, but it proved to be the last time Columbia would lead - Penn went on a 19-0 run and dominated possession for most of the rest of the half.
