Dartmouth Outscores Princeton 29-12 in Ivy Semifinals
The Big Green tamed the Princeton Tigers 29-12 on Brophy Field. Dartmouth outscored Princeton 21-0 in the first half, but the visitors would get on the board twice in the second half before falling 29-12.
With a semifinal victory over Princeton, the Men in Green secure a berth and the host of the Ivy Rugby Conference Championship against Brown University, with the victor securing an automatic bid to the D1-AA National Tournament.
The DRFC kicked off against Princeton at 11am at Brophy Field in Hanover, NH. The Dartmouth starting lineup included 1. Anfo-Whyte 2. Banks 3. Robinson 4. Smith 5. Jones 6. Greenberg 7. Greene 8. McDavid 9. Descalzi 10. Gilbert 11. Ciambella 12. Connell 13. Wymore 14. Clark 15. Hughes
Dartmouth's young superstar Madison Hughes '15 started the scoring off in the corner after some solid forwards play deep in Princeton territory. Hughes converted his own try to give the Big Green an early 7-0 lead. Next Dylan Jones '14 crashed through the Princeton line scoring on a nice try under the posts. The conversion by Hughes was again good. DRFC 14 - Princeton 0. Just before the half Madison Hughes '15 breaks off a beautiful run down the sideline and offloads to Justin Ciambella '13 for the try. Hughes converts for the third straight time. Dartmouth takes a 21-0 lead into the half.
The second half scoring continued for Dartmouth as Hughes converted a penalty to make the score 24-0 in favor of DRFC. Princeton finally drives one over for a try of their own right under the posts. The conversion made the score 24-7 DRFC. Dartmouth followed with a burst through the line by Chris Banks '16, then swinging the ball wide to Justin Ciambella '13 for his second try of the day. 29-7 DRFC. Before the final whistle Princeton gets another to make the final score 29-12 DRFC.
With the win, Dartmouth will host Brown next Saturday for the Ivy Championship.
