Cornell Women Rout Columbia, 90-0
The Cornell Women's Rugby Club played host to Columbia this past weekend on a beautiful Saturday morning in Ithaca. In a game that featured an offensive explosion by the Big Red, Cornell took an early lead and didn't look back, keeping their foot on the gas pedal for the length of the match to finish with a 90-0 victory. Anastasia Allwine and Judith Milner both scored two tries each in the first half to help Cornell jump out to a 42-0 lead at the break; When play resumed, Abby Fessler and Alyssa Garcia both added two scores of their own to match them and make sure that the game stayed out of reach. Although the final score was lopsided, Columbia showed a lot of heart and determination with aggressive and speedy defensive play in the second half.
Both teams are facing off against Ivy Rugby Conference opponents this coming weekend. Columbia will head home to host visiting Yale, and Cornell will continue their homestand against a tough Penn squad.
