Cornell Men Continue Winning Streak, Beat Princeton
Cornell has been the team to beat in the Ivy Rugby Conference's Southern Division this fall, and after their 33-12 win over Princeton this past Saturday it doesn't look like that's about to change anytime soon. Don't let the 21-point margin of victory fool you, however - Princeton played tough all game, and stymied the Cornell offense for much of the first half of play.
Both teams combined for strong defense (and, at times, sloppy play) in the first half, with a Benno Sorenson penalty kick providing the only scoring of the period. Cornell came out of the gate looking hot in the second, stepping up their defensive presence thanks to the play of their back line led by Nick St. John.
Eventually, Cornell was able to put a try on the board in the 44th minute thanks to powerful running by Andrew Sapozink. Jim Tregurtha and Keith Hoge followed their teammate onto the score sheet. While Princeton continued to play tough throughout the match, the Big Red proved too much and a converted try in the 70th minute by Junior Ryan Cleary sealed the deal.
