Ivy Rugby Barbarians vs. (Frederickton Loyalists (Canada))
A sunny, yet cool day at the beautiful Brown University Rugby pitch saw a game of a Ivy Barbarians (Mixture of players from Brown & Harvard Universities) Vs the touring Frederickton Loyalists from New Brusnwick, Canada. Over 100 points would be scored today.
This was truly a game of two halves, with the Ivy Barbarian scoring seven trys in the first half to the Loyalists two. The Ivys we able to cut up the Canadian defense and then accelerate away to score, it seemed that the Ivys had an overlap each time. Both sides were well drilled at the break down and were able to produce quick ball for their backlines which made for expansive and exciting Rugby.
Half: Ivy Barbs 47 - Loyalists 12
In the second half, the Loyalists were able to shake off the effects of their extra-curricular activities from the night before and dominated the second half running in five trys, while the Ivy XV could only manage three. The game lost a lot of its focus towards the end with what appeared to be deliberate scrum wheels and lack of discipline at the ruck but I can only attribute this to both sides having truly played their hearts out.
The Ivy Rugby Barbarians were the victors on the day amassing 64 points while the Frederickton Loyalists posted an impressive 43. Kudos to both sides for making this one of the most enjoyable games I have ever refereed!
