Harvard wins over Northeastern 15-0.
The Sweet 16 of Collegiate Division I Rugby
The Sweet 16 of USA Collegiate Division I Rugby will be held on the weekend of April 30th at four regional venues around the country. The venues include the University of California at Santa Barbara California, the National Sports Center in Blaine Minnesota, Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green Ohio and the University of Buffalo in Buffalo New York.
The Ivy League Rugby Conference will be represented by Harvard University. The four teams are set for the regionals at Buffalo. Northeastern, the New England champion, will square up against Ivy representative Harvard University, while Met NY champoin Southern Connecticut will do battle against the host and Upstate NY champion University of Buffalo.
Dartmouth College (7-0 in league play) won the Ivies outright and moves on to play in the USA Rugby Collegiate Premier League.
Ivy Wildcard Playoffs
The battle for second place behind Dartmouth earning the right to represent the Ivies in DI was fierce. At the end of the fall 2010 head-to-head season while following the Rugby Union Bonus Points System, Columbia finished just one point ahead of third-place Harvard. Both teams had an equal five-and-two record. Yale finished four-and-three, while Brown finished up three-and-four.
Despite the records, there was no clear-cut leader going into the Wildcard Playoffs. In the regular season, Harvard was the victor over Yale and Brown, but fell to Columbia. Columbia beat Brown, but lost to Yale. Brown defeated Yale. A four-team wildcard playoff ensued.
Brown surprised Columbia 42-17 and Harvard squeeked by Yale 10-6 in the preliminary matches. With their convincing 32-13 win over Brown in final of the Ivy Wildcard Playoffs, Harvard won the right to represent the Ivy League in the Division I Collegiate Championship competition.
