Brown Women 85-0 win in New Haven
The Brown women dominated a determined but young Yale squad, walking off with an 85-0 win in New Haven. All American Blaine Martin 11.5 opened the scoring 3 minutes in gathering in a beautifully placed chip from flyhalf and All American Chelsea Garber '12 and touching down between the posts. Chelsea converted and Brown was up 7-0. Minutes later Blaine struck again hitting a gap between the Yale line and racing 40 meters, as the Yale fullback closed in Blaine slid to the ground, the stunned Yale defender paused, Blaine popped the ball to Shakeela Faulkner '12 who raced in untouched, Chelsea converted and Brown led 14-0.
Center Laurel Oldershaw '14 was the next Brown player to find space behind the Yale line, Laurel rushed a well placed kick, blew by the Yale wing and raced in for the score, Chelsea converted, Brown 19-0. Minutes later Blaine Martin took a well timed ball in the gap and shook off a Yale tackle, racing in for the score,Chelsea converted, Brown 26-0.
Twenty minutes in the Brown forwards took a nice ball from the back of the line out fed co-captain Blair Martin '12 who passed to Chelsea who used a quick change of pace to burst through the Yale line and outrace the Yale line for a 33-0 lead. Moments later Laurel Oldershaw got a nice pop from Michelle Vanderploeg, Laurel was reward for her support with an easy try under the posts, Brown 40-0.
Fullback Blaine Martin closed out the half and scored her third try of the match. The score was perhaps the prettiest of the match coming off a nice series of fakes and short passes. As the Yale line shifted in to contain the short passes Blaine took a nice pass wide to score and end the half 47-0.
Bruno put 6 first year players to start the second half. The first years did a great job and the scoring onslaught continued. Flanker Vanessa Munoz '13 got her first try of the match ripping the ball out of a Yale players hands and racing in, Brown 52-0. Chelsea Garber scored next off a nice feed from Michelle Vanderploeg to bring the score to 59-0. First year Patti Epko '15 earned her first, A side try racing outside her opposite to score, Brown led 64-0. First year player Erica Florenz '13 was next to score powering through the middle to score under the posts. Erica converted her own try and Brown led 71-0.
Captain Chelsea Garber scored hat trick - her third try of the match - countering off a deep Yale kick and racing outside the disorganized Yale line to bring the score up to 78-0. Alison Gale '14 scored the final try supporting a line break and timing her run well to outrace the Yale wing. Erica Florenz converted and Brown walked off 2-0 in the league.
