Brown Women 29 - Harvard Women 8
Brown remained undefeated in Ivy play with a messy 29-8 win over a scrappy Harvard side. The wet field benefited Harvard as it slowed down the pace and allowed the big Harvard forwards to bully Brown off the ball.
The match started strong with Brown pinning Harvard behind their 30 for almost 10 minutes. Bruno was finally rewarded when the backs moved the ball nicely to Katie East '12 on the wing. Katie saw Chelsea looping and sold a nice dummy to the Harvard wing who slid over to Chelsea allowing Katie to go in for the score, Brown led 5-0. Twenty minutes in Katie East struck again pinning her wing and passing to a flanker Elizabeth 'Stan' Stanicoff '12 who took it in for the score. Chelsea converted and Brown was up 12-0. The remainder of the half was a see-saw battle with Brown coming close to scoring a number of times.
After the half Brown found themselves backed up behind the 30 - an offsides call gave Harvard a penalty kick and put them on the board 12-3. Captain Chelsea Garber quickly deflated Harvard's hopes finding a seam in the Harvard line and bursting through for a nice score and a 17-3 Brown lead. The 'push-pull' continued as the big Harvard forwards ate up the ball and the stout Brown defense held. In the sixth minute Brown was backed up and mishandled a ball in goal a Harvard player fell on the ball and brought the match to 17-8, Captain Chelsea came to the rescue again dashing Harvards hopes with a beautiful burst up the middle, scoring under the posts and converting, Brown led 24-8.
The final score came 5 minutes later and was the try of the match. Scrambling off a messy ruck Chelsea chipped a ball over the Harvard forwards and collected a rebound off the stunned Harvard defender fielding the ball, as Chelsea hit the ground wing Shakeela Faulkner '12 picked the ball off Chelsea and dove over for the score and a final 29-8 win.
Next week Bruno travels to Princeton for the final Ivy match - if Brown wins they will take the Ivy League Championship and earn a strong seed in the Northeast playoffs.
