Brown Week One Ivy Rugby Conference Results

Brown enters week two of their Ivy Conference having lost to Columbia on September 24 and beaten Cornell on September 25.

Brown had the Columbia match almost in the bag, when the Lions came roaring back with two quick late scores to edge Brown 17-13 in the First XV match. Brown vs. Columbia match details »

USA Rugby Collegiate Rugby Sevens National Championships

Collegiate Sevens Championships Officially Announced

Boulder, Colorado -- The USA Rugby Board of Directors has approved a proposal from the College Management Council for a new Collegiate Sevens National Championship for Men's and Women's Teams that will debut in Dec, 2011.

The USA Rugby Collegiate Rugby Sevens National Championships will be held on the 16th and 17th of Dec, 2011, at a site that is yet to be determined.  The Championships will consist of 24 Collegiate Men's Teams and 16 Collegiate Women's Teams.

Brown 2nd XV 44 - Dartmouth 2nd XV 0

The future looks bright for Bruno as the Brown 2nd XV rolled over the Dartmouth 2nd XV. Both sides fielded virtually 'all rookies' - playing their first match. Brown scrum half Zuleyka Marquez '15 was inspiring as a runner and as a field general. She never hesitated and her teammates responded putting Dartmouth under relentless pressure.

The 2nd XV followed the 1st XV match in a shortened match, shutting out the Big Red 2nd XV 37-0.

Dartmouth Sweeps Weekend to Start Ivy Rugby Season

After nearly a month of pre-season training, Dartmouth Rugby finally began its fall season in earnest with the opening of the Ivy Rugby 15s season. The first weekend of conference play saw the Big Green make a road swing through New York to take on Cornell and Columbia, and as has been the case in the past, they made easy work of their less experienced opponents.

Brown 2nd XV 12 Columbia 0

A still shocked Brown team took the field in the 2nd XV match for two 15 minute halves before the Bears made the long drive to Cornell that night.

In the 7th minute, after regular pressure in the Columbia half Blair Cameron’13 missed a drop goal attempt, but Brown kept the pressure on and kept the ball in Columbia territory.  Unfortunately Louis Solmonson ‘13 was injured with a ankle sprain in the 9th minute and was forced to leave the game.

Yale Surives Late Try by Cambridge

This week, Yale was able to recruit 30 new players to play rugby. It is a very big mix of athletic talent and size, but as usual, very little experience. The coaching staff is accustom to teaching inexperienced players the game of rugby, just not this many at once. Good organized training sessions this week were so well attended, that we had to bring in a Southern for a controlled scrimmage as an opener to the Cambridge matches.

Yale was able to hold a late Cambridge surge to win 33-27. Standout players for Yale were Mack Hull, Nick Lombardo, Sam Power and the man of the match, Dan O'Brien.
