Penn Rugby poses with Penn President Amy Gutmann

Penn Men and Women

The men and women of the University of Pennsylvania rugby pose with University President Amy Gutmann. The long-awaited park is having a dramatic effect on the landscape between University City and Center City.

Penn Rugby will be a big part of the transition of the new landscape. "It's great to have an all weather full field to practice on. Penn put a lot of thought and effort into these fields for their club sports, and its nice to see. I think our women's rugby team will really benefit from being able to practice on a full field, and its also nice that we can have home games on campus, and under lights," stated Penn Women's Coach Emily Record. Penn Park features a regulation size rugby pitch complete with Rugby only goalposts. The new facilities have already brightened the outlook for the two teams as Penn Rugby now has a home.

"Penn Park is a fantastic new facility that besides beautifying and greening the University of Pennsylvania's campus aids both Penn Rugby and Ivy Rugby. On the Penn side it provides a home field on campus proper that will aid in building a stronger rugby culture at Penn. For Ivy Rugby, it is another excellent venue befitting the level of rugby played in this division.  The Players and Coaches of Penn rugby cannot thank Amy Gutmann, the Penn Administration and Penn Alumni for all the time and effort they put into making Penn Park a reality," stated Penn Men's Rugby coach Omar Foda.

Brenda L. Achille, University of Pennsylvania Class of 2012 added, "Overall, I think that Penn Park is going to be a huge asset to Penn Women's Rugby. Currently, it has allowed us to have effective practices, even late into the night. Penn Park opens our options to newer possibilities such as hosting tournaments and clinics due to all the space that is available to us. We are glad that Penn Park was created, it has proven to be invaluable to our team!"
