Cornell (M) continues to Shock the Ivies with a Win over Visiting Penn
Cornell came into this week's with their first division lead since 2005. After all was said and done, they managed to come through the other side while retaining possession of first place - but not without having to face off against a physical Penn team that made the game even closer than the final score of 21-12 would suggest.
Penn was able to jump out to a quick start on the road, racking up a 12-5 lead going into the half. Cornell threatened to score before halftime, but Penn showed impressive effort and determination to stop them from 5 meters out as time expired. With all the momentum in Penn's favor, it looked like the second half would be more of the same. Instead, Cornell rallied and scored 16 unanswered points to seal the home victory and their spot as the number one team in the Ivy Rugby Conference's Southern Division for another week. "It was great to see how we stepped up to the challenge during the second half," said Cornell's Keith Hoge. "We continued to play hard rugby in the forward pack and the backs were doing a great job getting through Penn's defensive line. All in all, I couldn't be happier with this win."
Cornell will take their undefeated record on the road to Princeton next week, while Penn will return home to Philadelphia to host Columbia.
